Concept of generativity in childless women in middle adulthood

Abstract:

Generativita je podle Eriksonovy teorie psychosociálního vývoje vývojovým úkolem pro období střední dospělosti. V jeho pojetí se jedná o prokreativní mezigenerační jednání, které se projevuje plodností a péčí o další generaci. Přirozeně tak člověk činí v rámci výchovy vlastních dětí, která tvoří náplň jeho času a určuje směřování sil. Zároveň je splněn další důležitý aspekt, a to přesahování vlastního života. Vlastní děti umožní pokračování rodu, ponesou rodové hodnoty a zůstanou zde po naší smrti. Tato studie chce odpovědět na otázky, jakou formu generativity rozvíjí ženy ve střední dospělosti, které o vlastní děti nepečují. Sledovanou oblastí studie je prožívání bezdětnosti a generativní jednání bezdětných žen. Cílem studie je zjistit, jakou formu generativity rozvíjí převážně nedobrovolně bezdětné ženy, které věkem dosahují střední dospělosti. Jaké generativní činnosti jim odpovídají na otázku po smyslu života a přináší jeho naplnění. Výzkum zjišťuje emoce, postoje a jednání vedoucí k vyrovnání se s bezdětností, se u nich vyskytují. Výzkum je zaměřen také na to, jak bezdětné ženy uvažují o smyslu života, jak vnímají potřebu přesahu vlastního života a jakou formou generativního chování tuto potřebu uspokojují. Metodou analýzy dat je tematická analýza. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 14 převážně nedobrovolně bezdětných žen.

Abstract:

According to Erikson's theory of psychosocial development, generativity is a developmental task for middle adulthood. In his conception, it is a procreative intergenerational act that manifests itself in fertility and care for the next generation. Naturally, people do so in the context of raising his own children, which constitutes the filling of his time and determines the direction of his forces. At the same time, another important aspect is fulfilled, namely the transcendence of one's own life. One's own children will enable the continuation of the lineage, carry on the family values and remain here after our death. This study seeks to answer questions about what form of generativity women develop in middle adulthood who do not care for their own children. The area of study is the experience of childlessness and the generative actions of childless women. The aim of the study is to find out what form of generativity is developed by mostly involuntarily childless women who reach middle adulthood. What generative activities answer their question for the meaning of life and bring it fulfillment. The research finds out the emotions, attitudes and actions leading to coping with childlessness occur in them. The research also focuses on how childless women think about the meaning of life, how they perceive the need for transcendence in their own lives, and what form of generative behavior satisfies this need. The method of data analysis is thematic analysis. Fourteen mostly involuntarily childless women participated in the research.
