Neustály přístup k pitné vodě je jedním ze základních předpokladů života v rozvinutých zemích. Na to, aby tohle mohlo být zabezpečeno je potřebné nejdřív zdrojovou vodu upravit chemickými, biologickými a fyzikálními postupy. Přitom je důležité zachovat „multibariérový přístup“.
