Knowledge of the Sound Structure of Speech in Czech Gramatography First Third of the Nineteenth Century

Abstract:

V předkládané práci jsme se zaměřili na zmapování poznatků o zvukové stavbě češtiny v českých gramatikách první třetiny devatenáctého století. Nejprve jsme nastínili politicko-kulturní dějiny daného období s ohledem na metodologické postuláty zásadní programové stati Petra Karlíka a Jany Pleskalové vztahující se k historiografii lingvistiky. Závěrem tohoto nástinu jsme v hrubých konturách podali vývoj české gramatografie s ohledem na vývoj českého jazyka. Poté jsme předložili výsledky dosavadního bádání o této historické etapě prizmatem zvukové stavby jazyka, které jsme se snažili kriticky zhodnotit. Tím jsme uzavřeli teoretickou část práce a přistoupili k části analytické, ve které jsme rozebrali konkrétní mluvnická díla Josefa Dobrovského, Jana Nejedlého, Jana Evangelisty Šmitta a Václava Hanky. Jimi zjištěné poznatky jsme komparovali se současnými výsledky bádání, zejména s pojetí Marie Krčmové, druhotně také s pojetím nastíněným v akademické mluvnici češtiny. V závěru jsme se snažili generalizovat zjištěné výsledky a vytvořit obecný model, používaný při popisu češtiny v první třetině devatenáctého století.

Abstract:

In the given thesis, I focused on mapping knowledge on sound structure of the Czech language in Czech grammars of the first third of the 19th century. First, I outlined political and cultural history of the given period regarding methodological postulates of an essential programmatic article by Petr Karlík and Jana Pleskalová referring to historiography of linguistics. At the end of this outline, I presented roughly the development of Czech gramatography with regards to the development of the Czech language. Then I introduced results of the previous research concerning this historical period from the perspective of the language sound structure, which I tried to assess critically. Thus I completed the theoretical part of the thesis and proceeded to the analytical part in which I analyzed concrete grammatical works by Josef Dobrovský, Jan Nejedlý, Jan Evangelista Šmitt and Václav Hanka. I compared their findings with the recent research results, in particular with the approach of Marie Krčmová’s, secondarily also with the approach outlined in the academic grammar of the Czech language. In the final part, I tried to generalize my findings and create a general model used in the descriptions of Czech language in the first third of the 19th century.
