The process of gender reassignment and the family?s view of life with a transgender

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá fenoménem transgenderu a dopadů odlišné genderové identifikace jedince na rodinu. Východiskem práce se staly výzkumy, které v kvantitativním měřítku referují o poruchách rodinných vztahů v rodinách s transgender členem. K akceptaci transgenderu je přistupováno jako k zátěžové situaci. Cílem práce je popsat proces coming outu člena v rodinném systému očima identifikovaného člena a ostatních členů rodiny, popsat vnímání a hodnocení aktuálního soužití členů a popsat změny vnímání transgender člena u ostatních rodinných příslušníků. Teoretická část se zabývá vysvětlením pojmů stěžejních pro tuto práci. Je také věnována souhrnu informací o socializaci a rodinné situaci osob s transgender identitou. Praktická část se zabývá popisem situace v jedné rodině s transgender členem, kterou tvoří matka, otec a starší sourozenec participanta. Výběrový soubor byl získán metodou dostupnosti. Data byla získána sérií polostrukturovaných rozhovorů, které byly vedeny osobně. Následovala transkripce a systematizace pomocí otevřeného kódování. K analýze získaných dat byla využita interpretativní fenomenologická analýza. Data jsou prezentována v kategoriích stanovených kombinací výzkumných otázek a opakujících se jevů napříč rozhovory. Všichni zúčastnění kromě identifikovaného člena vnímají dopady soužití jako negativní. Jako nejčastější se objevovaly pocity bezmoci, zlosti a zahanbení. Nebyly popsány žádné pozitivní dopady na rodinu. Práce přináší pohled do rodiny s transgender členem, která se potýká zároveň s mnoha dalšími negativním jevy. Popisuje podrobně vnímání transgender identity člena, coming out, smiřování se se změnou rodinné struktury s přesahem do dnešních dnů a budoucího vývoje.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the phenomenon of transgender and the effects of different gender identification of the individual on the family. The starting point of the work was research that reports on a knatitiative scale about disorders of family relationships in families with a transgender member. Transgender acceptance is approached as a stressful situation. The aim of the thesis is to describe the process of coming out of a member in the family system through the eyes of an identified member and other family members, to describe the perception and evaluation of current coexistence of members and to describe changes in the perception of a transgender member in other family members. The theoretical part deals with an explanation of the key concepts for this work, and is devoted to a summary of information about the socialization and family situation of people with transgender identity. The practical part deals with the description of the situation in one family with a transgender member, which consists of a mother, a father and an older child. The sample was obtained using the availability method. The data were obtained through a series of semi-structured interviews conducted in person. Open-ended transcription and systematization followed. Interpretive phenomenological analysis was used to analyze the obtained data. The data are presented in categories determined by a combination of research questions and recurring phenomena across interviews. All participants, except the identified member, perceive the effects of coexistence as negative. Feelings of helplessness, anger, and embarrassment were the most common. No positive effects on the family have been reported. The work brings a view into a family with a transgender member, which is facing many other negative phenomena. It describes in detail the perception of the transgender identity of the member, coming out, reconciling with the change of family structure with an overlap to the present day and future development.
