This thesis compares Czech and German textbooks for the educational area Humans and Their World. The first chapter focuses on the characteristics of textbooks. It provides a definition of a textbook, presents its different conceptions and discusses its structure and functions. The following chapter introduces textbooks as a part of school curriculum.
