Participation of the Czech Army in UN peacekeeping operations

Abstract:

Žijeme v době, kdy otázka bezpečnosti ve světě neztrácí ani při nejmenším na svém významu. Organizace spojených národů je největším aktérem usilujícím o udržování míru a bezpečnosti, přičemž Česká republika je právoplatným členským státem OSN a tedy je nezbytné aby, se podílela na činnostech této organizace. Diplomová práce se zabývá účastí Armády České republiky na mírových operacích OSN. Jedná se o teoretickou práci rozdělenou do čtyř částí. Práce obsahuje charakteristiku Organizace spojených národů a mírových operací, které jsou vedeny pod patronací OSN. Následující části práci jsou věnovány Armádě České republiky a účasti Armády České republiky na mírových operacích OSN. Poslední část práce je zaměřena na zhodnocení přínosu účasti na těchto operacích včetně negativních externalit, které jsou s tímto zahraničním působením spojeny. Cílem diplomové práce je zmapovat a zhodnotit účast příslušníků Armády České republiky na mírových operacích OSN a odpovědět na otázku v čem spočívají přínosy této účasti.

Abstract:

We live at a time when the question of security in the world does not lose at least its meaning. The United Nations is the greatest actor on peacekeeping and security, with the Czech Republic being the rightful member state of the United Nations, and it is therefore necessary for it to participate in the activities of that organization. The thesis deals with the participation of the Czech Army in UN peacekeeping operations. It is a theoretical work divided into four parts. The work includes characteristics of the United Nations and peacekeeping operations under UN auspices. The following sections are devoted to the Czech Army and the participation of the Czech Army in UN peacekeeping operations. The last part of the thesis is focused on the contribution of participation in these operations, including the negative externalities that are associated with this foreign operation. The aim of the thesis is to map and evaluate the participation of members of the Czech Army in UN peacekeeping operations and to answer the question of what the benefits of this participation are.
