Propaganda, misinformation, fake – news: risks and their prevention among the target population of seniors

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem propagandy, dezinformací, fake news a jejich negativními vlivy na populaci seniorů. Seniorská populace byla vybrána z důvodu jejich zranitelnosti a malé orientace v současném, moderním světě. Cílem práce bylo vytvoření a zrealizování vzdělávacího programu „Boj proti lži“ týkajícího se fake news a desinformací. Byla vytvořena písemná příprava s powerpointovou prezentací, celý vzdělávací program byl nejprve odzkoušen na skupině známým seniorů, jejichž poznámky a připomínky ke zpracování a obsahu prezentace byly zapracovány a následně byl program zrealizován jako vzdělávací aktivita v domově seniorů. Před samotnou prezentací byla ověřena schopnost seniorů rozpoznat desinformaci a informaci pravdivou, stejné ověření bylo provedeno po uskutečnění vzdělávacího programu a bylo zjištěno, že senioři, kteří program absolvovali, byli schopni informace od sebe rozpoznat mnohem lépe. Pomocí dotazníku byla vyhodnocena přínosnost programu, kdy 100 % seniorů tvrdí, že jsou nyní lépe připraveni rozpoznat desinformaci od informace ověřené. Nápomocen je jim k tomu vytvoření edukační letáček, který byl rozdán a senioři mohou informace šířit dál mezi sebou.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of propaganda, misinformation, fake news and their negative effects on the senior population. The senior population was chosen because of their vulnerability and low orientation in the contemporary, modern world. The aim of the work was to create and implement an educational program "Fight against lies" concerning fake news and disinformation. A written preparation with a powerpoint presentation was created, the whole educational program was first tested on a group of known seniors, whose comments and remarks on the preparation and content of the presentation were incorporated and then the program was implemented as an educational activity in a senior citizens' home. Before the presentation, the seniors' ability to recognize misinformation was tested. and the information true, the same verification was done after the implementation of the educational program and it was found that the seniors who completed the program were able to tell the information apart much better. Using a questionnaire, the usefulness of the program was evaluated, with 100% of seniors saying that they were now better able to distinguish misinformation from verified information. They were helped to do this by the creation of an educational leaflet that was distributed and the seniors were able to disseminate the information further among themselves.
