The adjectival intensificators in the French and Czech language: A survey about the adverbs of horror and beauty

Abstract:

This bachelor´s thesis proposes to observe the general features of the chosen Czech and French evaluative adverbs as the adjectival intensificators in the collocations of an adverb and an adjective; it tends to find the mutual accords and dissimilarities of their use. It outlines the characteristics of these adverbs in the pleonastic and oxymoronic collocations. The thesis is divided in the three parts. The first one is focused on the theoretical results on the field of the adverbial intensification and expressivity. The second one describes two methods of the research: the research in the corpora and the questionnaire that is focused on the spoken language. The third one presents the results of the singular adverbs. The questionnaire contains three underparts whose the first and the second ones are concentrated on the frequency of the use and the intensity of the analysed adverbs, the third one occupies with the pleonasms and the oxymora. The results of the three mentioned underparts reveal the desintensification and desemantisation rate of the analysed adverbs, additionally also the age differences in the use of adverbs in the adverbial-adjectival collocations. The thesis aims at the general traits of these collocations in the chosen and available electronic linguistic corpora in comparison with the traits common to the spoken language; on this base, the thesis compares also the usual translation procedures and proposes the own ones.

Abstract:

Tato práce si klade za cíl sledovat chování vybraných českých a francouzských evaluačních příslovcích v adjektivo-adverbiálních souslovích ve funkci adjektiválních intensifikátorů; hledá vzájemné typické shody a poukazuje na odlišnosti v užití. Charakterizuje též jejich chování v pleonastických a oxymóronních souslovích. Práce je rozdělena do tří částí, z nichž první je zaměřena na teoretické poznatky v oblasti intenzifikace a expresivity u adverbií. Druhá část popisuje dvě metody práce: vytěžování korpusů a dotazníkové šetření, jenž mapuje jazyk hovorový. Třetí část pak představuje výsledky analýz u jednotlivých typů příslovcí. Samotný dotazník obsahuje tři podčásti, z nichž první dvě jsou zaměřeny na frekvenci použití a intenzitu zkoumaných adverbií, třetí část se pak zaobírá pleonasmy a oxymórony. Výsledky všech tří podčástí mají za cíl poukázat na míru dezintenzifikace zkoumaných adverbií, okrajově pak na věkové rozdíly v použití adverbií v adverbio-adjektiválních souslovích. Práce mapuje povšechné rysy těchto sousloví ve vybraných elektronických jazykových korpusech v porovnání s rysy běžnými jazyku mluvenému; na tomto základě jsou srovnány užívané překladatelské postupy a navrženy také postupy vlastní.
