Effect of pupil size on subjective refraction

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vlivem velikosti zornice na hodnotu subjektivní refrakce. Je rozdělena do čtyř kapitol. První část seznamuje s pojmem zornice – co je zornice, jaké svaly ovlivňují šíři zornice, jaká je její funkce, jak se zornice vyšetřuje a jaké mohou být její patologie. Druhá část se zaměřuje na teorii vidění. Konkrétně jak vzniká zrakový vjem, jaké jsou fotoreceptory, světelné podmínky, jak se na tyto podmínky lze adaptovat a jaká je reakce zornic na světlo a tmu. Aberace vyššího a nižšího řádu, Zernikeho polynomy a vliv aberací vyššího řádu na vidění jsou obsaženy ve třetí části. Čtvrtá kapitola zahrnuje výzkumnou část. Ta se zabývá měřením na objektivních přístrojích, následně subjektivní refrakcí za fotopických a mezopických podmínek a vyhodnocením těchto získaných dat. Cílem diplomové práce je na subjektech vyhodnotit vliv velikosti zornice na subjektivní refrakci za fotopických a mezopických podmínek v souvislosti s aberacemi rohovky.

Abstract:

Subject of this thesis is the influence of a pupil size on the value of subjective refraction. It is divided into four chapters. First part introduces the concept of pupil – what the pupil is, what muscles affect the width of the pupil, what its function is, how the pupil is examined and what its pathologies may be. Second part focuses on the theory of vision, specifically how visual perception is formed, what the photoreceptors are, light conditions, how we can adapt to these conditions, and how does pupils respond to change of lighting conditions. Higher and lower order aberrations, Zernike polynomials, and the effect of higher order aberrations on vision are covered in part three. Fourth part includes the research part. This focuses on measurements with objective instruments and then subjective refraction under photopic and mesopic conditions which are followed by evaluation of the acquired data. Main goal of the thesis is to evaluate the effect of pupil size on subjective refraction under photopic and mesopic conditions in relation to corneal aberrations on subjects.
