A Teacher’s Conversion to the Waldorf School System

Abstract:

Cílem mé magisterské diplomové práce s názvem „Konverze učitele k waldorfskému školství“ je porozumět subjektivní zkušenosti učitelů odcházejících z klasického školství do školství waldorfského. Pracuji s konceptem profesně-hodnotové konverze, který odvozuji od konverze náboženské jako procesu změny. Zajímám se o motivy, které vedly učitele ke změně pedagogického přístupu a zaměřuji se na napětí a konflikty, které prožívali učitelé na klasických školách i na proces hledání jiné alternativy a adaptaci učitelů v novém prostředí. K vymezení způsobů konverze docházím na základě provedeného kvalitativního šetření. Pro sběr informací jsem využila polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s učiteli, kteří přestoupili ze školy klasické na školu waldorfskou. Analýza je prováděna technikou otevřeného kódování a tvorbou analytického příběhu.

Abstract:

The aim of my Master’s Diploma Thesis called “A Teacher’s Conversion to the Waldorf School System” is to understand the subjective experience of teachers abandoning the classic school system in order to move to the Waldorf one. I work with the concept of professional and value conversion, which I deduce from the religious conversion as a process of change. I am interested in the motives which led the teachers to change their pedagogical approach and I focus on the tension and conflicts that the teachers were experiencing in classic schools as well as on the process of finding a new alternative and on the teachers’ adaptation to the new environment. Various ways of conversion are defined on the basis of qualitative research. In order to collect information I used semi-structured interviews with teachers, who moved from a classic school to a Waldorf one. The analysis has been conducted with the help of the open coding technique and the creation of an analytic story.
