Aristotle’s Treatise On the Heavens in View of Aristotle’s Methodology

Abstract:

Based on the analysis of the argumentation in treatise On the Heavens the aim of this diploma thesis is to provide a description and evaluation of the methodology in Aristotle’s cosmology. The first part presents an outline of the method designed by Aristotle for the inquiry in science of the nature. Subsequent argumentation analysis explores the procedures applied in the inquiry aiming to identify its general and specific features. Results acquired in first two parts are finally used for assessment of overall compliance rate of methodological procedures in On the Heavens with the general methodology of science and to asses inner consistency of the method used in the treatise.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto práce je, na základe analýzy argumentácie spisu O nebi, podať popis a hodnotenie metodológie skúmania v Aristotelovej kozmológii. Prvá časť prezentuje náčrt metódy, Aristotelom navrhnutej pre skúmanie vedy o prírode, kam tematicky spadá práve spis O nebi. Následná analýza argumentácie zachycuje postupy prakticky užité v skúmaní s cieľom určiť jej celkové nastavenie a špecifiká. Poznatky nadobudnuté v prvých dvoch častiach sú nakoniec využité na celkové určenie miery zhody postupov spisu O nebi s všeobecnou vedeckou metodológiou a na posúdenie vnútornej konzistentnosti postupov v analyzovanom spise.
