Official power and the notion of "uncivil" in the 1970s and 1980s in Krnov

Abstract:

Ústředním tématem diplomové práce je koncept "uncivil" neboli koncept neobčanského, o němž hovoří Jeffrey C. Alexander v souvislosti s občanskou sférou. Pro snadnější orientaci v textu a problematice je úvodní část práce věnována vymezení konceptů, jako je občanská společnost a občanská sféra, konceptu zdvořilosti, solidarity a především binárnímu diskurzu a konceptu neobčanského. Občanská sféra rozlišuje společnost na základě binárních symbolických kódů (symbolická čistota a nečistota), které jsou nositeli principů exkluze a inkluze. Diskurz dichotomie společnosti tvoří jádro výzkumu, kterému je věnována druhá část diplomové práce. Ambicí druhé části práce je na základě získaných dat zmapovat a interpretovat, co město Krnov z hlediska oficiální moci považovalo za neobčanské, jaké praktiky při práci s neobčanským využívalo a jakými hodnotami dané praktiky byly podloženy. Na získaná data lze nahlížet z mnoha perspektiv - pro danou práci byla vybrána zmíněná dichotomie společnosti, dále pak pastýřská moc a etnizace, které se navzájem doplňují a překrývají. Hlavním cílem práce je pak na základě těchto interpretací dat zjistit, jakými hodnotami byly praktiky orgánů města Krnova podloženy

Abstract:

The topic of this master's thesis is the concept of "uncivil" which is mentioned by Jeffrey C. Alexander in relation to the civil sphere. To navigate through the text and the whole issue more easily, the introduction is dedicated to the delimitation of the concepts such as the civil society and civil sphere, the concept of civility and solidarity, and above all the binary discourse and the concept of uncivil. The civil sphere bases the distinction of society on binary symbolic codes (symbolic purity and impurity) which carry the principles of exclusion and inclusion. The discourse of society's dichotomy forms the core of the research which the second part of the thesis is dedicated to. The aim of the second part of the work is to map and interpret, based on the gathered data, what was considered uncivil from the point of view of the city of Krnov and its official power as well as the practices used while working with the concept of uncivil. The data can be viewed from different perspectives - for the purposes of this thesis, the aforementioned dichotomy of the society was chosen together with the pastoral power and ethnicization, which complement and overlap each other. The main goal of this thesis is to find out, based on the interpretations, what values were the practices of the authorities of Krnov based on.
