Problematic aspects of the Roma family environment in relation to school success

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje problematice školní úspěšnosti romských dětí. Cílem práce je identifikování problematických aspektů v romském rodinném prostředí vzhledem ke školní úspěšnosti romských dětí. Práce je členěna na část teoretickou a empirickou. Nejprve je popsána školní úspěšnost a faktory, které jí ovlivňují. Další kapitola se věnuje romské kultuře. Je zde uvedena hodnotová orientace Romů, popis romských rodin a výchovy dětí, bytové podmínky a romský jazyk. Dále je zmíněna aktuální situace ve vzdělání romských žáků v České republice. Empirická část je věnována kvalitativnímu výzkumnému šetření, které bylo realizováno pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s matkami romských dětí. Nejprve jsou uvedeny výzkumné otázky, následuje metodologie výzkumu. Hlavní část tvoří samotné výsledky výzkumu a jejich interpretace.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with problems of the school success of Romany children. The aim of this thesis is the identification of problematic aspects in the Romany family environment in relation to the school success of Romany children. The thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical part. Firstly, the school success and influencing factors are described. The next chapter is devoted to Romany culture. The value orientation of Romanies, description of Romany families and the upbringing, the housing conditions and the Romany language are presented here. The actual situation in education of Romany children in the Czech Republic is also mentioned. The empirical part is focused on the qualitative research which was carried out by half-structured interviews with mothers of Romany children. Firstly, there are research questions presented followed by the methodology of the research. The main part creates results of the research and their interpretation.
