Direct Presidential Election

Abstract:

This thesis will discuss the process of implementation of direct presidential election in Czech Republic and the 2013 elections, with a particular concentration on the supervision of electoral process. The introduction part of this thesis will describe the presidential appointment mechanisms in the republic form of gover-nment and the impact of direct presidential election on the president’s standing. The main section of this thesis will then describe the process of how the direct presidential election reform was incorporated into the Constitution of the Czech Republic and how the election is executed in accordance with the legislation in force. The final part will explain the process of the presidential election in year 2013 from the perspective of different parts of the electoral supervision and will further describe the changes made to the legislation valid for this presidential election in year 2018.

Abstract:

Táto diplomová práca sa zaoberá procesom zavedenia priamej voľby prezidenta v Českej republike a zároveň jej priebehom v roku 2013, so zameraním sa na ob-lasť kontroly volebného procesu. Úvodná časť približuje postavenie a ustanovujúce techniky prezidenta v republikánskych formách vlády, pričom sa záverom snaží posúdiť vplyv priameho spôsobu voľby na postavenie prezidenta. Hlavná časť práce sa následne zaoberá procesom zavedenia priamej voľby prezi-denta do ústavného systému Českej republiky, a priebehom voľby podľa platnej právnej úpravy. Záverečná časť potom mapuje priebeh prezidentských volieb v roku 2013 z pohľadu jednotlivých častí kontroly volebného procesu a približuje zmeny právnej úpravy na tomto úseku platné pre prezidentské voľby v roku 2018.
