Contemporary conservatism on the example of the European Conservatives and Reformists

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zabývat se současným konzervatismem na příkladu Evropských konzervativců a reformistů. V úvodu práce budou vyložena teoretická východiska, zejména definice a znaky pojmu konzervatismus. Zde práce vyjde z poznatků politické filozofie. V další části budou představeny frakce Evropského parlamentu, především bude práce zaměřena na Evropské konzervativce a reformisty. Předmětem této práce bude rozbor činnosti nejvýznamnějších politických stran působících v této konzervativní frakci, přičemž se bude jednat o Občanskou demokratickou stranu v České republice, Konzervativní stranu ve Velké Británii a stranu Právo a spravedlnost v Polsku. V práci bude vyloženo jejich působení v této frakci a na půdě Evropského parlamentu a budou analyzována specifika jejich konzervativní politiky. Výsledkem práce bude zamyšlení nad perspektivami dalšího vývoje politické frakce Evropských konzervativců a reformistů na příkladech hlavních ukazatelů současného konzervatismu a jejich následného působení v Evropském parlamentu.

Abstract:

The main goal of this thesis is to describe the contemporary conservatism based on the example of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group. In the beginning I will describe the theoretical basis, most notably definition and basic signs of the concept of conservatism. In this part the thesis will be based on political philosophy. Next part will introduce the political groups in the European Parliament, with the main focus on the European Conservatives and Reformists Group. The aim will be to analyze the activities and policies carried out by the most important political parties which are a part of this conservative group, namely Civic Democratic Party (Občanská demokratická strana) in the Czech Republic, Conservative Party in the United Kingdom and Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość) in Poland. The thesis will describe their activities in this group and in the European Parliament and will analyze the specific points of their conservative policies. This will result in a reflection on the possibilities of a further development of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group on the examples of the main symbols of contemporary conservatism and their subsequent activities in the European Parliament.
