The Issue of Stimulant Intoxication and the Harm Reduction Approach

Anotácia:

Diplomová práce pojednává o intoxikaci stimulancii a využití přístupu snižování škod (Harm Reduction). Teoretická část obsahuje kapitoly o historickém vývoji stimulantů, o účincích psychostimulantů na lidský organismus a také o způsobech aplikace. V dalších kapitolách je vysvětlen vznik závislosti na stimulantech, je popsána charakteristika uživatele stimulancií i je objasněna prevence spolu s přístupem Harm Reduction. Dále jsou kapitoly věnovány rozdělení stimulancií, novým syntetickým drogám a intoxikaci stimulanty, diagnostice a terapii včetně managementu odvykacího stavu. Poslední kapitola shrnuje stimulanty využívané v medicíně. Empirická část byla zpracována jako literární review. Cílem bylo nalézt realizované sekundární zdroje (review) vhodné k adopci na národní úroveň pro oblast Harm Reduction stimulantů. Vyhledávání probíhalo v databázích Web of Science, Pubmed a Scopus. Zařazených zdrojů bylo sedm, zdroje byli porovnány a metodologicky posouzeny. Metodologicky vhodné review bylo pouze jedno a žádná doporučení nebyla převzata. Pro klinickou praxi byl vytvořen seznam regulovaných a neregulovaných stimulantů s názvoslovím, jednotlivými účinky a zajímavostmi.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on stimulant intoxication and the use of the Harm Reduction approach. The theoretical part includes chapters on the historical development of stimulants, the effects of psychostimulants on the human organism and the ways of application. In the following chapters, the development of stimulant dependence is explained, the characteristics of the stimulant user are described and prevention is explained together with the Harm Reduction approach. Furthermore, chapters are devoted to the distribution of stimulants, new synthetic drugs and stimulant in-toxication, diagnosis and therapy including the management of withdrawal. The last chapter summarizes stimulants used in medicine. The empirical part was developed as a literature review. The aim was to find implemented secondary sources (review) suitable for adoption at national level for the field of Harm Reduction of stimulants. The search was carried out in the databases Web of Science, Pubmed and Scopus. Seven sources were included, and the sources were compared and methodologically judged. There was only one methodologically appropriate review, and no recommendations were taken. A list of regulated and unregulated stimulants with nomenclature, individual effects and points of interest was created for clinical practice.
