Parental and peer attachment and fears in early adolescence

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na zkoumání vztahu mezi citovou vazbou k rodičům, ke kamarádům a pociťovaným strachem v rané adolescenci. Cílem bylo zjistit, zda existuje souvislost mezi citovou vazbou a strachem, a to jak strachem celkovým, tak jednotlivými kategoriemi strachu. Zabývali jsme se především strachem ze smrti a ohrožení, strachem z neznámého a strachem ze selhání a kritiky. Ve výzkumu jsme se snažili objevit specifika dyadických vztahů v rodině. Cílem výzkumu bylo nejen ověřit platnost hypotéz, ale také využít data k exploraci. Ve studii byl použit kvantitativní design. K získání potřebných dat byly použity dotazníkové metody, pro zachycení citové vazby metoda IPPA (the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment), která měří citovou vazbu k rodičům i ke kamarádům, a to pomocí tří dimenzí, jimiž jsou důvěra, komunikace a odcizení. Citovou vazbu k rodičům jsme měřili odděleně pro matku a otce. K měření strachu jsme použili FSSC-II (Fear Survey Schedule for Children, druhá revidovaná verze). K empirické analýze byla využita námi sesbíraná data od 145 studentů a studentek gymnázia a základní školy ve věku od 12 do 14 let. Získaná data ukazují, že existuje souvislost mezi citovou vazbou a strachem, i když se tato zjištěná souvislost liší od našich předpokladů. Nebyl nalezen rozdíl v celkové hodnotě strachu mezi adolescenty s jistou a nejistou citovou vazbou k rodičům. Naopak bylo zjištěno, že chlapci vykazující jistou vazbu a vysoké skóre důvěry a komunikace k matce, vyjadřovali vyšší míru strachu ze smrti. Analýza dat dále ukázala, že dívky, které byly zařazeny do kategorie nejistá citová vazba k matce, uváděly vyšší strach ze selhání a kritiky. Také bylo zjištěno, že dívky s vysokým odcizením od otce projevovaly vyšší míru celkového strachu a strachu z neznámého. Zkoumání vztahu otce a syna nepřineslo signifikantní výsledky. Žádné signifikantní vztahy nebyly nalezeny ani mezi citovou vazbou ke kamarádům a strachem.

Abstract:

This study is focused principally on the relationship between the parental and peer attachment and fears in early adolescence. The aim of the research was to find out, if there is a connection between the attachment and the fear, including the total fear as well as the specific categories of fear. We deal mainly with the fear of death and danger, the fear of the unknown and the fear of failure or criticism. In this study we tried to find out specifics of dyadic relationships in the family. The aim of this study was to confirm the thesis as well as to use the data for the exploration. This study uses a quantitative research design. We used the questionnaires to obtain wanted data, for the assessment of the attachment IPPA (the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment), that measures the parental and peer attachment in three dimensions (trust, communication and alienation). The parental attachment was studied separately for mother and father. Fears were measured by FSSC-II (Fear Survey Schedule for Children, second revision). We gathered data from 145 primary and grammar school students in the age rating between 12 and 14 years. We found out some connection between the attachment and fears although these findings were different than the thesis. There were discovered no difference in fears between adolescents with the secure and insecure parental attachment. We found out that boys with the secure attachment and high score of trust and communication to mother expressed more fear of death and danger. Other findings indicate that girls with the insecure attachment to mother mentioned high fear of failure and criticism. Furthermore we found out that girls with high level of alienation from father expressed more general fear and fear of the unknown. We did not find out any significant relations neither in father-son relationships, nor between peer attachment and fears.
