Short story work of František Švantner

Abstract:

František Švantner patřil k umělecky nejvýraznějším prozaikům slovenské literatury čtyřicátých let minulého století. Jeho novely ze sbírky Malka, kterými se ve své práci zabývám, jsou dílem fascinujícím i dráždivým, těšícím se dodnes velkému zájmu ze strany čtenářů. Důvodem je bezpochyby autorovo nevšední a jedinečné vidění světa, které spolu s jeho sugestivním ztvárněním, čtenáře provokuje a nutí hledat odpovědi na nepřímo položené otázky. Ve své práci jsem nejprve, pro lepší přehled, charakterizovala dobu a literární směr ve kterém autor tvořil, v rámci této problematiky jsem vymezila dva základní pojmy „lyrizovaná próza“ a „naturizmus“, vycházela jsem přitom z pohledu literárních vědců, J. Števčeka a O. Čepana. Dále jsem se pokusila tvorbu tohoto autora přiblížit a charakterizovat typické znaky jeho novel pomocí několika interpretací. Snažila jsem se také odpovědět na otázky, z čeho František Švantner při psaní svých novel vycházel, čím je zvláštní jeho umělecký projev a jak využívá kombinace kompozičních principů, postupů a syžetu. Z výsledku práce mimo jiné vyplývá, že Švantnerovi se podařilo oživit realistickou tématiku vesnického prostředí a pomocí poetického vidění světa ve svých novelách evokovat specifickou fantastickou atmosféru, ve vztahu k tradičnímu horskému prostředí. Důležitou roli v jeho tvorbě hraje významová nejednoznačnost, způsobená využitím fantastických realistických motivů. Švantner své novely staví na rozporu mezi skutečným poznáním a pochopením motivu. Možnost – skutečnost, iluze – realita, snovost – hmatatelnost, tak by se dal nazvat základní princip, uplatněný v díle Františka Švantnera.

Abstract:

Annotation: František Švantner was one of the most expressive prose - writers from 1940. His short stories from Malka are charming, fascinating and provocative and that is reason, why his work is still popular among the readers. One of the reasons is without any doubt remarkable of writer and unique perceiving of this world which together with his suggestive interpretation provokes the readers and compel them to find answers to the questions raised. This is the main feature of work of František Švantner. Firstly I characterized the period and literary movement. Within the frame of this section I specified two main concepts - „lyrizovaná próza“ and „naturizmus“ on the basis of perspective of two literal scientists - J. Števček and O. Čepan. Further in the text I tried to bring near the work of this writer and characterize typical features of his short stories by means of several explications. I also tried to answer the questions concerning the background of work of Švantner, his specific artistic manifestation and also his using of combination of compositional principles, procedures and sujet. From my bachelor thesis results that Švantner managed to brighten realistic theme of rural environment and according to the poetical perceiving of the world evoked an unique and fantastic atmosphere in relation to the traditional mountain environment. The important role has ambiguity of meanings caused by using of fantastic and realistic motives. The short stories are based on the antagonism between real knowledge and understanding of the motive. Possibility – reality, illusion – reality, dreaming - tangibility. That is what can be called the basic principle of work of František Švantner.
