Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá problematikou iráckého povstání v letech 2003-2008. Prvním a poněkud ambiciózním cílem práce bylo přání, aby se stala první českou případovou studií iráckého povstání. Druhým cílem práce, a poněkud podružnějším, bylo testování sémantických kapacit klíčových termínů, které jsou ve studii používány – jedná se především o termíny „povstání“, „guerillová válka“ a „terorismus“. Analýza povstání v Iráku je primárně zaměřena na ideologii, strategii a taktiku povstaleckých skupin. Proto je za tímto účelem zkoumána struktura povstání a taktické metody povstalců. Disertační práce má též svou pracovní hypotézu. Hypotéza má za to, že není možné plně aplikovat teorii na případ iráckého povstání. Irácké povstání je natolik fragmentované, že je nemožné teoretické modely beze zbytku aplikovat. Pro potvrzení předpokladu jsou testovány dvě teorie. Tou první je vlivná typologie O´Neilla, který ve své typologii definuje devět typů povstání. Druhý teoretický koncept, který je zkoumán, je teorie Kilcullena o „globálním islámském povstání“. Pokud jde o O´Neillovu typologii, je aplikovatelná jen částečně, neboť irácké povstání není možné zařadit do jediného typu. Proto musíme zkoumat a určit, které elementy iráckého povstání spadají do jednotlivých typů v rámci O´Neillovy teorie. Kilcullenova teorie je aplikovatelná jen na jisté okrajové části iráckého povstání, jelikož většina povstalců bojovala na základě nacionalistických pohnutek, namísto toho, aby vedla jakýsi „globální džihád“. Na závěr tedy musíme konstatovat, že oba vlivné teoretické modely jsou sice kvalitními koncepty, ale jsou v případě Iráku aplikovatelné jen na určité elementy iráckých povstalců.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the topics of the Iraqi insurgency in years 2003-2008. The first and a little bit ambitious goal of the study is being the first Czech case-study of insurgency in Iraq. The second and more modest goal is testing of semantic capacities of certain key terms, which are being used in the study – notably terms „insurgency“, „guerilla warfare“ and „terrorism“. The analysis of insurgency in Iraq is primarily aimed at ideology, strategy and tactics of insurgent groups. Therefore the structure of insurgency and tactical methods of insurgents are being explored. The thesis has also its operational hypothesis. The operational hypothesis of the study investigates the possibility of theory application in the case of insurgency in Iraq. It deems the Iraqi insurgency so fragmented that it is impossible to apply the theory effectively. The two theories are being used for confirmation of this anticipation. The first one is influential typology of O´Neill, who classifies nine types of insurgencies in his typology. The second theoreticcal concept, which is being inquired, is the theory of Kilcullen about the „global islamic insurgency“. In order to apply the mentioned theories in the Iraqi context, the ideology, strategy and tactics of insurgents are firstly being analyzed and in the conclusion the author tests the theories in the concrete case of Iraq. As for O´Neill theory, its application on the Iraqi insurgency is only partly feasible, because it is not possible to classify the Iraqi insurgency as only one type according to the typology. Therefore we must opt which parts of insurgency belong to certain types in O´Neill theory. As to Kilcullen theory, his concept of „global islamic insurgency“ is applicable only to certain fringes of the Iraqi insurgency, because the majority of insurgents were fighting because of nationalist drives, instead of making „global jihad“. In the end we must state that both of these influential theoretical models are quality ones, but they are applicable only on certain elements of the Iraqi insurgents.
