ČNB and Bank of Korea response to crises periods 2008-2009 and 2020-2021

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá monetární politikou České republiky a Korejské republiky během Globální finanční krize 2008 až 2009 a ekonomické krize spojené s pandemií koronaviru v letech 2019 až 2021. Mimo monetární politiku práce analyzuje i vývoj makroekonomických agregátů a veličin. V teoretické části jsou pomocí literární rešerše vysvětleny pojmy stěžejní pro celou práci. Mezi vysvětlené pojmy spadá HDP, inflace, trh práce, úrokové sazby centrálních bank, platební bilance a peněžní agregáty. Dále teoretická část vysvětluje nástroje, cíle a úlohu centrální bank v ekonomice. V závěru teoretické části jsou vysvětleny teorie krize a teorie hospodářského cyklu z pohledu několika ekonomických škol. V praktické části jsou vyjmenované veličiny sledovány v časových obdobích 2008 až 2009 a 2020 až 2021. Výsledky práce neshledávají výrazné rozdíly v přístupu centrálních bank ke krizím. V obou sledovaných případech se centrální banky sledovaných zemí musely vypořádat s podobnými problémy a volily podobné nástroje.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on monetary policy of Czech Republic and Republic of Korea during the Great Recession in 2008-2009 and economical crisis caused by global pandemics of coronavirus in 2019-2021. Besides monetary policy the bachelor thesis analyses progression of other macroeconomic aggregates and variables. In theoretical part, the basic concepts fundamental to the whole thesis are explained by means of literary research. The explained concepts include GDP, inflation, the labour market, central bank interest rates, balance of payments and monetary aggregates. Furthermore, the theoretical part explains means, ends and role of central bank in economy. The theoretical part concludes by explaining crisis theory and business cycle theory from perspective of sever economic schools. In the practical part, the listed variables are examined in time periods 2008 to 2009 and 2020 to 2021. The results of the thesis do not find significant differences in the approach of central banks to crisis. In both time periods, the central banks of studied countries had to deal with similar challenges and chose similar instruments.
