Analysis of the political cycle in the Czech Republic in 1996-2018 in the context of economic development in CZ

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou dopadů hospodářských politik pravicových a levicových vlád na vybrané makroekonomické ukazatele v České republice v období od roku 1996 do roku 2018. Po teoretické stránce se práce věnuje nejen politickému systému v ČR, jsou také představeny teorie hospodářského a politického cyklu a rozebrána problematika státního rozpočtu včetně mandatorních výdajů. Nechybí ani definování hlavních rozdílů mezi pravicovou a levicovou ideologií a zmínění jejich hlavních představitelů. V praktické části je provedena analýza jednotlivých volebních období zasazených do vývoje hospodářství, a jsou charakterizovány vybrané makroekonomické ukazatele. Saldo a výdaje státního rozpočtu (celkové i mandatorní) jsou následně zkoumány z pohledu pravice a levice. Autor dochází k závěru, že se pravicové vlády snaží snižovat celkové výdaje státního rozpočtu, avšak je zajímavé, že to neprovádí na úkor mandatorních výdajů. Chovají se tedy v tomto ohledu zodpovědněji než vlády levicové.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis analyzes the impact of economic policies of right-wing and left-wing governments on selected macroeconomic indicators in the Czech Republic in the period from 1996 to 2018. In theory, the thesis deals not only with the political system in the Czech Republic, but it also presents theories of economic and political cycles and the country's budget including mandatory expenditures. The thesis also mentions definitions of the main differences between right-wing and left-wing ideology and mentions their main representatives. In the practical part, there is an analysis of individual election periods set in the development of the economy and the selected macroeconomic indicators are characterized. The balance and expenditures of the state budget (both total and mandatory) are subsequently examined from the perspective of the right and left. The author concludes that right-wing governments are trying to reduce the total expenditures of the state budget, but, interestingly, they do not do so at the expense of mandatory expenditures. They, therefore, behave more responsibly in this manner than left-wing governments.
