Internet social networks as a self-presentation tool of young Czech and Slovak music artists

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the important topic of new media in connection with the field of popular music industry and independent music, respecitvely. It's goal is to bring up new generation of musicians' view of social networking sites as a significant form of new media, which enables them to present themselves online, by using qualitative research methods via analyzing semi-structured interviews with young musicians. At the same time, the thesis takes potential impact of internet social networks on music industry in Czech Republic and Slovakia into consideration, while focusing on the approach of the music artists to using them and trying to uncover important topics related to this discourse. The results of the reasearch provide theoretical description of the way that social webs are perceived, used and judged by music artists, who use them for their band's web presentation.

Abstract:

Táto práca sa zaoberá významnou a aktuálnou tematikou nových médií v spojení s oblasťou hudobného priemyslu, resp. nezávislej hudby. Jej cieľom je prostredníctvom kvalitatívneho výskumu spracovaného formou analýzy pološtrukturovaných rozhovorov s mladými hudobnými interpretmi priblížiť pohľad novej generácie hudobníkov na sociálne weby ako významnú formu nového média umožňujúceho sebaprezentáciu online. Súčasne zohľadňuje ich potenciálny význam pre hudobný priemysel v Českej Republike a na Slovensku, zatiaľčo sa zameriava na prístup interpretov k ich využívaniu a snaží sa poodhaliť významné témy dotýkajúce sa tejto problematiky. Výsledky výskumu teoreticky popisujú spôsob, akým sú sociálne vnímané, používané a hodnotené hudobnými umelcami, ktorí používajú ako webové prezentácie pre svoje kapely.
