The Position and the Role of the Child in Family Socialization

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřena na problematiku pozice a role dítěte v rodinné socializaci. V současnosti je socializace jako taková celoživotní proces – člověk se nikdy nepovažuje za definitivního. Rodina má v procesu socializace zvláštní postavení, jakožto prostor, kde jedinec vstupuje do interakce se svými významnými druhými. Díky nim, a to díky každému z nich jedinečnými způsobem, si konstruuje vlastní identitu. V kontextu mé práce je dítě nahlíženo jak jako někdo, jenž je socializován, tak jako někdo, kdo sám – jakožto významný druhý – je faktorem konstrukce identity a potažmo socializace svých blízkých. Dizertace je postavena na analýze hloubkových rozhovorů s rodiči ze šesti desítek českých a francouzských úplných rodin, kde jsou tři děti a kde nejméně jeden z rodičů dosáhl vysokoškolského vzdělání. První kapitola je věnována popisu metodologie výzkumu, druhá a třetí otázce aplikace normy autonomie jednotlivců v rodinné socializaci a otázce role dítěte jako významného druhého. Malé dítě je ukázáno jako specifický druh významného druhého – jako „dětský významný druhý“. Ve čtvrté kapitole je představen teoretický model rodinné socializace založený na třech ideálních typech; těmi jsou: rodinný podnik, rodina dvou generací vrstevníků a pár a děti. Každý z typů má specifické socializační akcenty a specifická je i pozice a role dítěte v něm: jako dítěte svých rodičů i jako sourozence. Socializační akcenty se různým způsobem projevují i na úrovni kontaktů s lidmi z vnějšku rodiny.

Abstract:

This thesis deals about problematic of position and role of the child in family socialisation. Socialisation is, in the society of second modernity, a life-long process – the individual does never consider himself as complete. The family is a space where individuals enter in interactions with their significant others, and thanks to them can construct their identity. In the context of this work, child is regarded as somebody being socialised and at the same socialising other people – he/she, being a significant other of somebody else, helps him to construct his/her identity. The work is based on research: qualitative interviews have been effectuated with parents of more than sixty Czech and French families – complete families with three children where at least one of the parents is higher educated. The first chapter offers a description of methodology of my research, the second and the third one deal about the norm of autonomy of individuals in family socialisation and about the role of the child as a significant other. The little child is presented as a specific type of significant other – as a “significant other in the state of child”. The fourth chapter presents a theoretical model of family socialisation consisting of three ideal types of families. These types are: the family enterprise, the family of two generations of peers and the couple and children. Each of the types has its own specific accents in socialisation, and also the position and the role of the child in it are specific: in what concerns his/her role of his/her parents’ child or his/her role of sibling. The socialisation accents appear, in different manners, also on the level of contacts with persons from outside of the family.
