The writing and acting group around the show Horrible Histories and their transition from acting to screenwriting - an analysis of style and genre using the example of the sitcom "Ghosts"

Anotace:

Bakalářská práce „Autorská a herecká skupina kolem pořadu Horrible Histories a jejich přechod od herectví ke scenáristice – analýza stylu a žánru na příkladu sitcomu Ghosts“ si klade za cíl pojmenovat principy, které si členové autorského uskupení „The Them There“ osvojili v dětském pořadu Horrible Histories, a které se posléze stávají charakteristické pro jejich tvorbu. Soustředí se na zázemí autorského kolektivu, v němž vznikal projekt Ghosts, a které mělo vliv na jeho žánrové ukotvení, výběr postav a typ humoru. Srovnání pilotních epizod americké a britské verze pak na konkrétních příkladech zdůrazňuje kvality britského originálu.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s thesis „The creative and acting group behind Horrible Histories and their transition from acting to screenwriting – an analysis of style and genre based on the sitcom Ghosts” aims to identify the principles that members of the creative collective “The Them There” developed during their work on the children’s show Horrible Histories, and which later became characteristic of their work. It focuses on the background of the collective in which Ghosts was created, and which influenced its genre framework, choice of characters, and type of humor. A comparison of the pilot episodes of the American and British versions then highlights, through specific examples, the strengths of the British original.
