The Impact of corporate financing on EBITDA

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá vliv struktury kapitálu podniku na ukazatel EBITDA. Cílem je zjistit vliv poměru vlastního a cizího kapitálu podniku na ukazatel EBITDA. Manažeři firem a podniků potřebují zodpovědět zásadní otázku ohledně optimálního financování. Téma zkoumá důležitost významu poměru cizího a vlastního kapitálu při rozhodování managementu. Tento poměr určuje strukturu kapitálu podniku, která buď má vliv na ukazatel EBITDA, nebo nikoliv. Data jsou získaná z účetních výkazů vybraných 677 výrobních podniků v České republice (viz Příloha). Práce zkoumá problematiku z více dílčích zkoumání. První část využívá kvantitativní metodu výzkumu vycházející zfinančních výkazů a následuje ověření vlivu kapitálové struktury na ukazatel EBITDA, za použití Pearsonovy korelační a regresní analýzy. Druhá část zkoumá vliv výkonu firmy na ukazatel EBITDA s využitím ukazatele rentability vlastního kapitálu. Třetí část se zaměřuje na kvalitativní výzkum a pomocí hloubkových rozhovorů prezentuje důležitost použití ukazatele EBITDA v praxi. Výsledky výzkumu definují optimální vztah kapitálové struktury a určují, jak významný, nebo nevýznamný je tento vliv na EBITDA. Výsledky výzkumu je možné použít v manažerské praxi, případně výsledky můžou být použité pro další výzkumy v dané oblasti.

Abstract:

The thesis examines the impact of the capital structure on EBITDA. Managers of firms and enterprises seek answer to a fundamental question regarding the optimal financing and its impact on financial indicators. This document examines the importance of the ratio of debt and equity capital. The results should help to make an effective financial decision in corporate management. This ratio further determines the capital structure of the firm, that affects the EBITDA indicator. The data are obtained from the financial statements of 677 manufacturing enterprises in the Czech Republic (see Appendix 1). The paper examines the issue with several research questions. The first part uses a quantitative method of research based on financial statements and verifies the impact of capital structure on EBITDA. The impact is investigated by Pearson corelation and regression analyses. The second part examines the impact of firm performance on EBITDA using the return on equity ratio. The third part uses qualitative research using in-depth interviews with responders to confirm the importance of EBITDA in corporate operations. The analyses results define the optimal capital structure and determine how significant or insignificant the impact on EBITDA is. Managers of a mid-sized companies would appreciate this critical business information. This study can also be used as a base for further research.
