Evaluation of motor and cognitive functions and their relation in patients with a stroke

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce bylo sledování motorických a kognitivních funkcí a jejich závislosti u pacientů po cévní mozkové příhodě, kteří absolvovali rehabilitační léčbu na Doléčovacím a rehabilitačním oddělení Fakultní nemocnice u sv. Anny v Brně. Pacienti byli testováni při přijetí a následně před propuštěním pacienta prostřednictvím testu míry funkční soběstačnosti a Addenbrookského kognitivního testu. Předpokládali jsme, že komplexní léčba s intenzivní rehabilitací povede u pacientů ke zlepšení jak kognitivních, tak motorických dovedností a že mezi nimi existuje statisticky významný vztah. Z výsledků práce vyplynulo, že rehabilitační léčba vede ke zlepšení jak kognitivních, tak motorických funkcí. Výsledný funkční stav pacienta je pak závislý na věku, počátečním funkčním stavu pacienta i na stavu kognitivních funkcí, a to především pozornosti, prostorových a zrakových schopnostech a verbální fluenci.

Abstract:

The aim of this work was evaluation of motor and cognitive functions and their relation among patients with a stroke. The patients were hospitalized at Rehabilitation department of Teaching hospital U sv. Anny in Brno, where they undertook a complete rehabilitation treatment. They were tested using the Function independence measure and Addenbrook´s cognitive examination-revised before the start of their rehabilitation treatment and before discharge. We tried to prove that overall treatment along with the intensive rehabilitation leads to the improvement of output values of the Function Independence Measure as well as the Addenbrook´s cognitive examination-revised. Then we tried to prove that there is a relation between cognitive and functional improvement. The measured results show that intensive rehabilitation leads to cognitive as well as functinal improvement. Age, functional status on admission, and cognitive functions were recognized as the predictors of functional outcome in a stroke. Motor functions correlated most strongly with attention then with visuospatial functions and verbal fluency.
