Cyanobacteria are well known producers of various secondary metabolites. They belong mainly among peptides and alkaloids and they can cause hepatotoxic or neurotoxic effects to vertebrates. Different methods are used for their detection. They are based on biological, biochemical and physico – chemical interactions.
