Legal Bases of the Czech Republic Integration into the EU

Abstract:

První zmínky o Evropské integraci se objevují v polovině 20. století, kdy předseda vlády Velké Británie Sir Winston Churchill vyzývá v Zürichu k založení Spojených států evropských. Postupem času vstupují v platnost důležité právní dokumenty, které sjednocují Evropu. Je to Smlouva o založení evropského společenství, Smlouva o založení evropského společenství pro atomovou energii a Smlouva o založení Evropské unie, kde najdeme právní základy evropské integrace. Velmi důležitým mezníkem v historii evropské integrace se stal listopad 1993, kdy nabyla účinnosti Maastrichtská smlouva, která je smlouvou zakládající EU. Amsterodamská smlouva, která novelizovala smlouvu o EU, přinesla celou řadu změn, mj. pro spolupráci v oblasti bezpečnosti a justice, volného pohybu osob a v oblasti ochrany základních lidských práv. V roce 1996 se uchází Česká republika o členství v Evropské unii a 1. května 2004 se stáváme jedním z deseti nových členských států, kdy je vydán důležitý dokument, Smlouva o přistoupení. K plnění svých úkolů disponují Evropská společenství čtyřmi hlavními orgány, kterými jsou Evropský parlament, Evropská rada, Evropská komise a Evropský soudní dvůr.

Abstract:

European integration was first mentioned in the mid 20th century, at a gathering in Zurich, when the noted British prime minister, Sir Winston Churchill called for the formation of a 'United States of Europe'. Over time several important legal documents came into effect which helped to unify Europe. These are the treaty of the European Economic Community, the European Atomic Energy Community and the European Union; together these formed the legal basis of modern European integration. November 1993 was a very important milestone in the history of European Integration, when the Treaty of Maastricht came into effect, marking the foundation of the European Union (EU). The Amsterdam Agreement which amends the EU Agreement brought up a number of changes that moved Europe towards mutual cooperation in EU safety and justice, the free movement of persons and protection of basic human rights. The Czech Republic applied for European Union membership in 1996 and on May 1st of 2004 became one of the ten new member states when the Treaty of Accession was issued. The European Community has four main bodies for fulfilment of its various tasks – the European Parliament, the European Council, the European Commission and the European Court of Justice. Together these legal and administrative bodies bind agreements and relations between the twenty seven EU member states.
