Imprisonment of Elizabeth Catherine Smiricka at Kumburk

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá aférou šlechtičny Elišky Kateřiny Smiřické, která se intimně stýkala s kovářem Jiříkem Wagnerem, za což byla jedenáct let vězněna na Hrubé Skále a hradě Kumburk a následně ztratila veškerá dědická práva. Práce se zaměřuje na to, jakým způsobem byla za svůj delikt šlechtična Smiřická potrestána, a zda byl takový trest adekvátní pro ženu jejího postavení. Část práce se tak soustředí na teoretické otázky, které se týkají vnímaní sexuality a mravnostních deliktů v raně novověké společnosti a na způsob jejich trestání, které se lišilo dle příslušnosti hříšníků k určité společenské vrstvě a pohlaví.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the affair of the noblewoman Elizabeth Catherine Smiricka, for intimately consorting with the blacksmith George Wagner, for which she was imprisoned for eleven years at Castle Hruba Skala and Castle Kumburk and subsequently lost all rights of heritage. The focus is on how her offense as a noblewoman was punished and that the punishment was appropriate for a woman of her position. Part of the work is thus focused on the theoretical issues concerning the perception of sexuality and sexually motivated offenses in early modern society and the way their punishment which varied according to the jurisdiction of sinners to a particular social group and gender.
