The primary purpose of this bachelor thesis is to examine the expressionist features and women's roles found in Sophie Treadwell's drama "Machinal." Tato bakalářská práce si klade za cíl analyzovat expresionistické prvky a role žen v divadelní hře Sophie Treadwellové Machinal. Úvodní kapitola nastiňuje prvopočátky a charakteristické znaky divadelního expresionismu všeobecně i v kontextu moderního amerického divadla.
