Ego-integrity in association with autonomy perceived during communist regime, life satisfaction and future time perspective

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo prozkoumání souvislosti ego integrity s autonomií prožívanou za socialismu, životní spokojeností a budoucí časovou perspektivou v období stáří. Ego integrita jako výsledek úspěšného vyře-šení osmé vývojové krize byla měřena pomocí Ego Integrity Scale, autonomie prožívaná za socialismu byla zjišťována pomocí upravené české verze Basic Psychological Needs Scales, životní spokojenost by měřena pomoci Life Satisfaction Index for the Third Age-Short Form a budoucí časovou perspektivu jsem zjišťovala pomoci Future Time Perspective Scale. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 114 seniorů ve věku 60-80 let (M = 65,4). Analýzy potvrdily předpoklad, že životní spokojenost je spojena s vyšší úrovní dosažené integrity ega. Nejdříve potvrzená souvislost mezi integritou ega a budoucí časovou perspektivou, se stává neplatnou v případě, že je kontrolován vliv životní spokojenosti. Souvislost mezi integritou ega a autonomií prožívanou za komunismu nebyla potvrzena. Výsledky studie jsou diskutovány s ohledem na období stáří, jež je charakterizováno konfliktem mezi integritou ega a zoufalstvím.

Abstract:

The aim of the present study was to explore relationship between ego integrity and autonomy perceived during communist regime, life satisfaction and future time perspective in late life. Ego integrity considered as positive result of eighth developmental crisis was measured using Ego Integrity Scale. For measurement of autonomy perceived during communist regime was used modified Czech version of Basic Psychological Needs Scales. Life satisfaction was measured using Life Satisfaction Index for the Third Age-Short Form, for measurement of future time perspective was used Future Time Perspective Scale. Research was conducted on 114 seniors, aged 60-80 years (M = 65.4). Based on the analyses, we managed to verify the presupposition that life satisfaction is related to level of ego-integrity. Firstly confirmed association between ego-integrity and future time perspective, becoming invalid, in case that influence of life satisfaction is controled. Association between ego-integrity and autonomy perceived during communist regime wasn´t confirmed. The results are discussed with respect to late life, which is characterised by crisis between ego-integrity and despair.
