Preparedness of the graduates of Tourism at the University of Economics in Prague for entering the labour market

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá oborem Cestovní ruch na Vysoké škole ekonomické v Praze. Cílem práce je zjistit, do jaké míry jsou absolventi připraveni na praxi v oboru. Toho je dosaženo za využití analýzy oboru a dotazníkového šetření mezi zaměstnavateli. První dvě kapitoly tvoří teoretickou část práce. Ta první se zabývá zaměstnaností a trhem práce cestovního ruchu, přičemž důraz je kladen na aktuální statistické údaje. Druhá kapitola se věnuje vzdělávacímu systému v České republice s důrazem na vysoké školství. Rovněž jsou zde části věnující se didaktice a kompetencím, se kterými se dále pracuje v praktické části. Tu tvoří následující dvě kapitoly. Ve třetí kapitole je analyzován obor tak, jak je v současnosti vyučován - výstupem je vytvořený seznam odborných kompetencí absolventů. Čtvrtá kapitola je vyhodnocením dotazníkového šetření. Výstupem celé práce je závěrečná podkapitola, která obě problematiky spojuje, a jsou představeny silné a slabé stránky výuky cestovního ruchu na VŠE. Bylo zjištěno, že silné stránky leží především ve zkušenosti studentů z praxe v oboru a znalosti cizích jazyků, nedostatky se pak vyskytují zejména v oblasti rozvoje klíčových kompetencí.

Abstract:

The Master's thesis concerns the Tourism study programme at the University of Economics in Prague. The main goal of the thesis is to determine the degree of preparedness of the graduates to work in the tourism field. That is achieved by utilizing the Study programme analysis and the questionnaire survey among the employers in tourism. The first two chapters represent the theoretical part of the thesis. The first concerns the employment and the tourism labor market with the main focus being on current statistical data. The second chapter focuses on the education system in the Czech republic, especially university education. The basic terminology from didactics and competencies, the subjects further examined in the practical part, is included here as well. The practical part consist of chapter 3 and 4. In the third chapter, the tourism study programme is subject to analysis - the conclusion being the list of professional competencies acquired by students. The fourth chapter focuses on evaluation of the survey, presenting the most important requirement of employers. The analysis revealed that the main strengths of the study programme lie in the students' compulsory work experience as well as their language skills. The principal weakness is insufficient development of key competencies.
