Sharing of work experiences in the context of well-being among nurses and physicians at oncology

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá sdílením pracovních zážitků v kontextu duševní pohody u zdravotních sester a lékařů na onkologii. Cílem práce je analýza procesu sdílení pracovních zážitků a hledání konstelace tohoto sdílení v rámci pracovních i osobních vztahů. Jde o mapování sdílených témat a s nimi spojených prožitků. Teoretický rámec studie tvoří teorie duševní pohody, pracovního distresu, sociální opory a strategií zvládání. Výzkumný soubor (N=7) tvoří tři lékaři a čtyři zdravotní sestry onkologických oddělení. Výzkum byl proveden podle metody zakotvené teorie. Metodou tvorby a analýzy dat jsou hloubkové rozhovory a vedle nich analýza dat na úrovni otevřeného, axiálního a selektivního kódování. Podle výsledků patří mezi základní procesy sdílení procesy hledání řešení a ventilace emocí. Konstelace sdílení závisí na otevřenosti zdravotníka a na vlastnostech komunikačního partnera, především na tom, zda je tímto partnerem kolega z práce, anebo laik. Mezi základní vlastnosti komunikačního partnera, které ovlivňují procesy sdílení, patří přítomnost či absence stejné zkušenosti, závazek mlčenlivosti a komunikační dovednosti partnera pro sdílení. Vnější kontext sdílení pracovních prožitků tvoří prostor a čas, kontext pracoviště a rodinné zázemí zdravotníka.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the way of sharing of work experiences in the context of well-being among nurses and physicians in oncology. The aim of this study is the analysis of the process of sharing and the exploration of this sharing in the context of work and personal relationships. The goal is to survey the shared themes and the experiences connected with them. The theoretical frame of this work is shaped by the theory of well-being, work distress, social support and coping strategies. The theoretical sample (N=7) consists of 3 physicians and 4 nurses from oncology departments. Research was conducted according the methodology of grounded theory. The method of data creation and data analysis were in-depth interviews followed by open, axial and selective coding. There are two fundamental processes of sharing according to the results - solution searching and venting of the emotions. Constellation of sharing depends on the openness of the physician or nurse and on the characteristics of the communication partner, especially on whether this partner is a colleague or a layman. The basic features of the communication partner, which affect the process of sharing, is the presence or absence of the same experience, commitment to confidentiality and communication skills of sharing partner. The external context of this sharing creates the space and time, the context of the work and family background of the medical staff in oncology.
