Development of regulation and supervision of the banking sector in the United Kingdom

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na regulaci a dohled bankovního sektoru Velké Británie. Tato země byla vybrána proto, že bankovnictví v ní hraje významnou roli a je na vysoce rozvinuté úrovni. Věnuje se novému systému regulace a dohledu, který byl přijat v dubnu roku 2013. Popisuje problémy, do kterých se bankovní sektor Velké Británie dostal po finanční krizi, přičemž je současně nastíněn původ těchto nesnází a jejich dopad na finanční systém jako celek. Je zde popsána široká škála opatření, která byla přijata, aby byla zabezpečena stabilita a ochrana britského bankovního systému, efektivnost a zamezení opakování pochybení z minulosti. Závěr této práce je věnován projektům daně z finančních transakcí a bankovní unii, jež by mohly v budoucnosti výrazně změnit současnou podobu britské regulace a dohledu.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with regulation and supervision of the banking sector in the United Kingdom. This country was chosen mainly because British banks have played an important role in this country for decades and its banking sector is highly developed. The main area of interest is a new regulatory regime in the UK, introduced in April 2013. In this thesis problems of banking sector after the financial crisis, origins of these complications and their impact on the financial system, are also described. Many of measures that were established to ensure stabilization and protection of the british financial system, to aim efficiency and to prevent from repeating past mistakes, are mentioned. The conclusion of this thesis deals with projects of the financial transaction tax and the banking union, that could significantly change the current structure of british regulation and supervision.
