Classical and computer methods of summation of series

Abstract:

Klasických způsobů stanovení součtu číselné řady existuje několik a každý řeší pouze specifické skupiny těchto řad. V mnoha případech je nutné vystačit s důkazem její kon-vergence, protože určení součtu je často obtížné. Objevení sumačních algoritmů ukázalo nový směr vedoucí k dosažení součtu řady a rozšířilo skupinu řad, ke kterým lze najít součet. Učivo sčítání číselných řad je zařazeno hlavně na střední a vysoké školy, přičemž se zde aplikují klasické postupy. Protože teorie počítačového sčítání je relativně nová, zatím ještě nemá zastoupení v žádných didaktických materiálech. Cílem této práce je především didaktický pohled na teorii sumačních algoritmů s myšlenkou vybrat nejvhodnější z nich pro zařazení do výuky a dokumentovat konkrétními příklady za účelem zpřístupnění nových výsledků vědeckého výzkumu ve společné oblasti matema-tiky a informatiky studentům a učitelům. Systém poznatků ukázal teleskopickou vlastnost řady jako klíčovou pro vznik algoritmů počítačových sumací. Teorie vychází z antidiference (s diferenčním krokem 1), která je v konečném kalkulu ekvivalentem k integrování. Vznik sumačních algoritmů se datuje přibližně od 80. let dvacátého století a stále se vyvíjejí. Zdrojem inspirace se stala me-toda nadané matematičky řádové sestry Mary Celine Fasenmyer, publikovaná v její disertační práci. Za první algoritmus je pak považován Gosperův algoritmus, kterým lze sečíst řady aritmetické, geometrické, aritmeticko-geometrické a mnoho jiných. Právě ten se ukazuje jako vhodný k prezentaci nadaným žákům středních a studentům vysokých škol. Práce obsahuje přehled nejpoužívanějších klasických metod sčítání číselných řad, který je doplněn o počítačový způsob. Zahrnuje několik desítek řešených příkladů, z nichž většinu lze použít ve výuce.

Abstract:

There exist several classical methods of determining the sum of series, and each of them addresses only specific groups of these series. In many cases it is necessary to make do with a proof of its convergence, since the determination of the sum is often difficult. Discovery of summation algorithms showed a new direction for achievement of a sum of a series and expanded the group of series, to which we can find a sum. Curriculum counting numerical series is included mainly to the middle schools and universities ap-plying classical methods. Because the theory of computer summation is relatively new, it is not represented in any didactic materials yet. The aim of this work is primarily di-dactic view on the theory of summation algorithms with the idea to choose the most appropriate ones for their inclusion into teaching process and document specific exam-ples in order to make accessible new research results in the common areas of mathemat-ics and computer science to students and teachers. System of knowledge showed telescoping series as a key feature for the development of algorithms for computer summation. The theory is based on antidiference (with differ-ential step 1), which is in the finite calculus equivalent to integration. The emergence of summation algorithms dates back to approximately the 80ties of twentieth century and is still evolving. The method of mathematically gifted nun Fasenmyer Mary Celine, published in her dissertation, became a source of inspiration. As the first algorithm is considered the Gosper?s algorithm, which can sum up arithmetic, geometric, arithmetic-geometric series and many more. This algorithm appears to be suitable for presentation to gifted students at secondary schools and universities. The work contains an overview of the most common classical methods for finding the sum series, which is comple-mented by computer methods. The work includes dozens of exercises, most of which can be used in teaching.
