Function of Taboo in Selected Works of Contemporary Czech Literature

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o fenoménu tabu a o jeho funkcích ve vybraných literárních dílech. Nejprve věnuje pozornost tabu samotnému, vymezuje původ a význam pojmu, způsoby, jakými může tabu vznikat, zanikat či být oslabeno, a dále jeho funkce a druhy. Popisuje některé ze základních tabuizovaných jevů, s nimiž se setkáváme v českém sociokulturním prostředí, a v základních obrysech načrtává problematiku tabu v literárních vědách. Seznámení se s tabu je následováno obecnou charakteristikou tvorby každého z vybraných autorů, se základními rysy jejich děl. Samotná analýza funkcí tabu vychází z menšího vzorku textů, z jednoho díla od každého autora. Pozornost je v nich věnována těm tabu, která lze pojímat jako společensky podstatná. Protože i přesto byla některá z nich v textech uplatněna jen velice málo nebo vůbec, zůstala ve středu zájmu pouze tabu vyměšování a sexu. U každého autora a jeho díla jsou funkce tabu rozebrány a rovněž ukázány na příkladech. Též jsou zde nastíněny odlišnosti, které se u jednotlivých autorů v používání tabu vyskytují. Shrnutí výsledků provedené analýzy poskytuje přehlednější výčet konkrétních funkcí tabu, s jakými se ve vybraných dílech setkáváme. Kapitola poslední potom předestírá možný způsob vymezení obecných literárních funkcí tabu, tedy funkcí, které by bylo možno aplikovat na jakákoli současná česká literární díla.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the phenomenon taboo and its functions in selected literary writing. At first it pays attention to taboo itself, it defines the origin and meaning of this concept, the ways in which taboo can be created and extinct or be weakened, and then defines its functions and types. It describes some of the basic phenomenon of taboo with which we can find in the Czech socio-cultural environment, and its basic features outline the problems of taboo in literary sciences. The introduction to the taboo is followed by a general characteristic of the work of each one of the selected writers, with basic features in their writing. The analysis of functions of taboo is based on small samples of texts, from each writer one sample. The attention is paid to those taboos which can be described as socially significant. Because of one of them was applied in text either just very little or nothing, so remain in the spotlight only taboo of the excretion and sex. For each writer and his text sample, we examine the functions of the taboo and illustrate them by examples. Also the differences between the usage of taboo by individual writers are outlined there. The summary of the results of this analysis offer a well arranged list of specific functions of taboo, which we can find in the selected writings. The last chapter then suggests a possible way of defining the general literary functions of taboo, functions which could be applied to any contemporary Czech literature.
