The Securitization of International Migration in Speeches by Representatives of Czech and Italian Anti-establishment Parties

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje problematice sekuritizace mezinárodní migrace v projevech představitelů tzv. anti-establishmentových stran v českém (SPD) a italském (Liga Severu) kontextu. Hlavním cílem je srovnání postojů českých a italských zástupců tzv. anti-establishmentových stran k mezinárodní migraci a identifikování odlišností v jimi prezentovaných diskursech a sekuritizačních narativech. Zároveň se práce zaměřuje na otázku adaptace politických projevů v závislosti na prostředí a předpokládaném příjemci sdělení (zejména na odlišnosti v projevech určených pro domácí a pro zahraniční scénu). Za tímto účelem jsou využity již existující klasifikace základních sekuritizačních narativů (Kaleta, 2015) a je aplikována analýza diskursivních strategií. Text mj. pracuje s hypotézou, že v českém prostředí, kde je „hrozba migrace“ dosud pouze imaginární, v projevech zástupců anti-establishmentových stran dominuje tzv. alarmismus a šíření morální paniky, zatímco v projevech italských politických zástupců dominuje diskursivní strategie viktimizace, tedy tzv. trpitelský narativ vystavěný na účelových odkazech na již reálné problémy související s migrací.

Abstract:

The Bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of securitization of international migration in the speeches by the representatives of the so-called anti-establishment parties in the Czech (SPD) and Italian (Northern League) context. The aim is to compare the attitudes of Czech and Italian representatives of the so-called anti-establishment parties to international migration and to identify differences in their discourses and securitization narratives. At the same time, the work focuses on the issue of adaptation of political speeches depending on the environment and the intended recipient of the message (especially on the differences in speeches intended for the domestic and foreign scene). For this purpose, existing classifications of basic securitization narratives are used (Kaleta, 2015) and the analysis of discursive strategies is applied. The text also works with the hypothesis that in the Czech environment, where the "threat of migration" is still only imaginary, the speeches of anti-establishment parties are dominated by the so-called alarmism and the spread of moral panic, while the speeches of Italian political representatives are dominated by the discursive strategy of victimization, i.e. the so-called narrative of suffering built on purposeful references to the real problems related to migration.
