The dependence of European healthcare systems on the immigration of foreign-trained medical doctors

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá problematikami mezinárodní migrace lékařů a nedostatku lékařské pracovní síly v evropských zemích. Cílem práce je zjistit, jakou roli hrála imigrace zahraničních lékařů v zajištění nabídky lékařské pracovní síly v evropských zemích v období let 2010-2018. Teoretická část se věnuje migraci lékařů v kontextu vysoce kvalifikované pracovní síly, motivačním faktorům migrace a trendům v migraci lékařů se zaměřením na evropský region. Praktická část se zabývá problematikou hustoty lékařských sítí a zjišťuje, jak mohou být v budoucnu ovlivněny stárnoucí lékařskou pracovní sílou. Dále je hodnocena schopnost zemí sytit svoji lékařskou síť prostřednictvím produkce nových lékařů a imigrace. Závěrem je analyzována míra závislosti evropských zemí v letech 2010-2018 na lékařích vzdělaných v zahraničí.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis addresses the issues of international migration of medical doctors and the shortage of medical doctors in European countries. The thesis aims to determine the role of international immigration of medical doctors in the supply of medical doctors in European countries in the period from 2010 to 2018. The theoretical part focuses on the migration of medical doctors in the context of a highly skilled workforce, motivating factors for migration, and migration trends of medical doctors with a focus on the European region. The practical part deals with the density of medical doctors' networks and identifies how they may be affected by the aging of medical doctors in the future. Also, the ability of countries to saturate their medical doctors' networks through the production of new doctors and immigration is assessed. Finally, the degree of dependence of European countries on foreign-trained doctors between 2010 and 2018 is analyzed.
