Social construction of personal involvement of helping care workers working with Roma children

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá sociální konstrukci osobní angažovanosti pomáhajících pracovníků ve vztahu k romským dětem. Zaměřuje se na způsoby, jakými sociální a pedagogičtí pracovníci kategorizují, stereotypizují a idealizují osobní angažovanost, v čem se liší a v čem se podobají. V teoretické části jsou představeny klíčové koncepty, jakými je sociální konstrukce a její aspekty kategorizace, stereotypizace a idealizace, vztah mezi pomáhajícím pracovníkem a klientem, osobní angažovanost a romská menšina. Výzkum je založený na kvalitativní strategii, realizovaný formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů se 4 sociálními pracovníky, 4 pedagogickými pracovníky a 4 romskými dětmi ve 3 Nízkoprahových zařízeních pro děti a mládež. Získaná data jsou interpretována na základě otevřeného a axiálního kódování. Výsledkem práce je zjištění, že nejvýrazněji se pracovníci liší v konstruování osobní angažovanosti jako profesionálního přístupu a jako tendence dělat víc, než by měli. Nejviditelnější podoby jsou patrné z angažovanosti pracovníků pro sebe, kdy se pracovníci angažují, protože je práce baví a vztah s dětmi jim něco dává. V závěru práce autorka podrobněji odpovídá na hlavní výzkumnou otázku a uvádí doporučení pro další výzkum a praxi.

Abstract:

The thesis examines the social construction of the personal involvement of helping care workers in relationship to Roma children. It focuses on the ways how the social workers and pedagogical workers categorize, stereotype and idealize personal involvement, how their opinions differ and how they are similar. In the theoretical section are introduced the key concepts such as the social construction and it´s aspects of categorization, stereotyping and idealization, the relationship between care worker and client, the personal involvement and the Roma minority. The research is based on the qualitative strategy; it is implemented through semi-structured interviews with four social workers, four pedagogical workers and four Roma children in the three Low-threshold facilities for children and youth. The obtained data are interpreted on the basis of open and axial coding. The main finding is that most workers are different in the construction of personal involvement as a professional approach and a tendency to do more than they should. The most obvious similarities are evident from involvement of workers because of themselves, when the workers involve themselves, because they enjoy the work and the relationship with children gives them something. In the end the author answers the main research question in detail and to makes some recommendations for future research and practice.
