Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá lingvistickými a kulturními jevy, na které jsem narazila při analýze českého překladu románu Bernarda DeVota Across the Wide Misssouri. Český překlad byl vydán pod titulem Za širou Missouri v roce 2001 a dílo přeložili Jarmila Rosíková a Milan Rejl. Práce sestává ze dvou částí. V první části se vyskytují informace o autorovi, jeho díle, shrnutí románu a dějinách obchodu s kožešinami ve Skalnatých horách. Druhá část diplomové práce se skládá z teoretické části a komentářů českého překladu. Jednotlivé jevy jsou rozděleny do dvou skupin ? gramatické a lexikologické. První část se zabývá rozdíly mezi českým a anglickým slovosledem vzhledem k teorii funkční větné perspektivy, rozdíly mezi českýma anglickým slovesem, prostředky sloužící k větné kondenzaci, pravidly interpunkce a užití přivlastňovacích zájmen v českém překladu, jehož nedostatkem je velké množství překladatelských chyb. Tyto části jsou doplněny překladatelskou analýzou a komentáři k vybraným úryvkům z knihy. V další části se zabývám oblastí lexikologie, která se soustředí především na nesprávný překlad obecných jmen, frazeologických jednotek, vlastních jmen a slov, která jsou kulturně zakořeněná (především na překlad názvů indiánský kmenů do češtiny). Své poznámky a komentáře doplňuji o podpůrné citace a odkazy z děl odborníků na překlad.

Abstract:

This diploma master thesis deals with the linguistic and cultural phenomena I encountered when analyzing the Czech translation of Bernard DeVoto?s novel Across the Wide Missouri, which was translated by Jarmila Rosíková and Milan Rejl in 2001. It comprises two main parts. The first one studies the author?s life, his piece of work, summary of the novel and the history of the Rocky Mountain fur trade. The major focus of the second part is a translation analysis providing the reader with theoretical background and comments on the Czech translation. The features that this thesis deals with are divided into the field of grammar, where the main focus is put on the differences between Czech and English sentence structure with focus on the functional sentence perspective, differences between Czech and English verbs, the use of English sentence condensers, rules for punctuation and the use of possessive pronouns in Czech translation, which suffers many inaccuracies related to the phenomena presented in this part. These sections are accompanied by the subsequent translation analysis and a commentary using several extracts from the novel. Another section of the second part of the thesis is focused on the field of lexicology, namely on the incorrect translation of common words, phraseological units, proper names and cultural-specific words (especially on the translation of Indian tribal names). I provided my explanations with theoretical support in the form of quotations and references to experts in the field of translation.
