Political-philosophical aspects of the death penalty

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje politicko-filozofickým aspektům trestu smrti. Na začátek se zaměřím na historii trestu smrti a jeho rušení. Budu se věnovat také lidsko-právními dokumenty, které tuto problematiku zaštiťují. Dále si položím filozofickou otázku, zabývající se znovu zavedením trestu smrti. V neposlední řadě se zaměřím na stěžejní část diplomové práce, a to na filozofický aspekt trestu smrti. V této části se budu věnovat právu na život u filozofických myslitelů, jako byl Thomas Hobbes, John Locke nebo Erasmus Rotterdamský a další. Pokusím se vysvětlit jejich koncepci, jak právo na život jednotlivě chápou, a co pro ně znamená, nakonec jejich koncepce porovnám a vyzdvihnu v čem se jejich koncepce a myšlenky liší a v čem naopak ne.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on the political-philosophical aspects of the death sentence. In the beginning, the history and abolition of the death penalty will be elaborated. The main aim is to analyze human-laws documents that cover this area. Furthermore, there will be raised a philosophical question of the death penalty reinstation. Last but not least, a focus on the crucial part of the diploma thesis, therefore a philosophical aspect of the death penalty. This part will be focused on the right to live according to philosophers, such as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Erasmus Rotterdamský and others. An endeavor to explain their conception on the right to live and its means for every individual philosopher aforementioned. Finally, a comparison between the conceptions where the differences will be highlighted as well as similarities.
