Reasons for social touch

Abstract:

Ve své práci jsem se pokusila najít odpověď na otázku, proč se lidé dotýkají druhých, jelikož důvody doposud nebyly zkoumány přímo od lidí, kteří dotyky dennodenně iniciují. V prvním dotazníku jsem identifikovala 85 originálních důvodů k dotyku a 66 různých významových kategorií. V druhém jsem zkoumala využití některých z nich v sociálních interakcích. Našla jsem 4 dimenze, jež je vysvětlovaly: předávání emocí, zbavení nejistoty, společenský akt a sebeprosazení, z nichž první dvě byly signifikantně genderově rozdílné. Úvahy nad zjištěnými motivacemi k dotyku jsou diskutovány níže.

Abstract:

In my thesis, I was looking for an answer to the question of why people touch others, as the reasons have not yet been examined directly from the people who initiate touches on a daily basis. In the first questionnaire, I identified 85 distinct reasons for touching and 66 categories. In the second, I measured the usage of some of them in social interactions. I found 4 explaining dimensions: conveying emotions, release of uncertainty, social act and self-assertion, the first two of which were significantly gender-differentiated. Reflections on the identified motivations for touch are discussed below.
