Evaluation of International Trade with Tea

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá zhodnocením mezinárodního obchodu s čajem. Práce je rozdělena do tří hlavní částí. První část práce, nazvaná teoretická východiska, obsahuje historii čaje, která sahá do období před 5000 lety, a legendy o objevu tohoto nápoje. Dále je zde charakterizovaná rostlina čajovník, latinsky Camellia, vhodné podmínky pro pěstování a oblasti pěstování čajovníku. Jsou popsány způsoby zpracování čajovníku pro výrobu různých druhů čajů. Zmíněny jsou účinky čaje na lidský organismus a také zvyky některých národů při pití čaje. Závěr teoretické části je věnován Mezinárodnímu výboru čaje a hnutí Fair Trade. Druhá a třetí část práce je obsažena v praktické části. Nejdříve je zkoumána světová produkce, cena, import a export čaje. Také je zkoumán čajový průmysl v Keni a mezinárodní obchod s čajem v České republice, čili spotřeba, cena, export a import a opatření při dovozu. Poslední část je věnována ekonometrickému modelu, pomocí něhož je zjištěno, jak na světovou spotřebu čaje působí světová produkce čaje, cena čaje a cena kávy. Pro výpočet a vyhodnocení modelu byl využit software Gretl a program Microsoft Excel.

Abstract:

The master's thesis deals with the evaluation of international trade of the tea. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part of the thesis is called Theoretical solutions and it is about the history of tea which dates back to the period by 5000 years ago and it also consists of the legends about how this drink was found. Then, the tea tree plant, Camellia in Latin, suitable conditions and the areas for its cultivation are characterized. Different methods of processing the tea tree plant for the various kinds of tea are described here. The effects of tea on human body are mentioned and then also traditions of some nations considering drinking tea are told here. The last part of theoretical part of thesis is devoted to International Tea Committee and to a Fair Trade movement. The second and third part of the thesis is included in practical part. Firstly, the global production, price, import and export of tea are examined. I tis also examined the tea industry in Kenya and the international trade of tea in Czech Republic, so the consumption, price, export, import and its measures. The last part is dedicated to econometric model, where it is measured how the global production of tea, its price and the price of coffee influence the global consumption of tea. Software Gretl and Microsoft Excel were used for calculation and evaluation of the model.
