Social construction of time by social worker and Roma in Socially Excluded Localities

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá sociální konstrukci času u sociálních pracovníků a Romů v sociálně vyloučených lokalitách. Zaměřuje se na způsoby, jakými sociální pracovníci a Romové kategorizují, stereotypizují a idealizují vnímání času, v čem se liší a v čem se shodují. Základem teoretické části bylo vymezení základních pojmů, které s danou problematikou souvisí. Jedná se o pojmy sociální konstrukce a její aspekty, time management, sociální práce s Romy ve vyloučených lokalitách a v neposlední řadě využití time managementu při sociální práci s Romy ve vyloučených lokalitách. V práci byl využit kvalitativní výzkum realizován formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s 6 sociálními pracovníky a s 6 Romy z vyloučených lokalit. Data získaná v rámci rozhovorů jsou interpretována na základě otevřeného a axiálního kódování. Z výzkumu vyplynulo, že sociální pracovníci generalizují, přičemž jejich vnímání času u Romů závisí především na základě etnických charakteristik. Nejvíce se podobaly konstrukce sociálních pracovníků a Romů v tom, že Romové mají dostatek času, kdy ho především věnují rodině, a že čas nemusí sledovat. Nejvýrazněji se sociální pracovníci a Romové lišili v konstruování času, kdy Romové jsou přesvědčeni, že mají stejné vnímání času jako majoritní společnost, a že plánují svou budoucnost. To však sociální pracovníci zcela vyvrací a uvádí, že Romové žijí přítomností a nedokáží plánovat do budoucna.

Abstract:

The diploma work goes into a social construction of time at social workers and Romanis in socially excluded locations. It aims at the ways that social workers and Romanis use to categorize, stereotype and idealize perception of time, what they differ in and what they agree about. The basis of the theoretical part was definition of basic terms that are connected with the given problems. It means the terms of social construction and its aspects, time management, social work with Romanis in excluded locations and particularly the full use of time management in social work with Romanis in socially excluded locations. The qualitative research was realized by the form of halfstructured interview with six social workers and six Romanis from excluded locations. The data obtained during the interviews are interpreted on the basis of axial coding.The research resulted in the fact that the social workers generalise while perception of time of the Romanis depends primarily on the basis of ethnic characteristics. The constructions of social workers were mostly similar to the Romanis in the field of time, when the Romanis have enough time they mostly devote it to their families and that they don´t have to follow time. Most considerably the social workers and the Romanis differred in constructing time, when the Romanis are sure that they have the same perception of time as the majority of society and that they are planning their future. But this is fully refuted by the social workers who say that the Romanis live in the present and they are not able to plan future.
