Gated communities in Ostrava

Abstract:

Gated communities je fenomén, který se pomalu rozšiřuje po celém světě. Přínosy má zejména pro obyvatele gated communities, kteří se díky jejich zabezpečení mohou cítit více v bezpečí a chráněni. Také mohou napomáhat k tomu, aby se vytvořily komunitní vazby mezi obyvateli, kteří často bývají homogenní. Často je ale upozorňováno na závažné problémy, které můžou gated communities přinést. Hlavně se jedná o projev residenční separace, která přispívá k odcizením se různým skupinám lidí. Jako důsledek může být nárůst předsudků k odlišným skupinám, které narušují celistvost populace a které mohou být hůře vyvráceny kvůli omezenému meziskupinovému kontaktu. Ve své práci odpovídám na to, v jaké formě se gated communities vyskytují v Ostravě a dopodrobna popisuji dvě zvolené lokality, Atrium Slezskou a Nové byty Ostrava. Gated communities se v Ostravě příliš nevyskytují. Což neznamená, že zde neprobíhá proces rezidenční segregace, jen nabývá jiné formy. Atrium Slezská je sedmipatrový bytový komplex, zatímco Nové byty tvoří patnáct menších bytových jednotek. Obě lokality jsou zabezpečené, ale jen v Atriu se residenti skládají na sdílené služby. Ani v jedné lokalitě se residenti a okolní obyvatelé příliš neznají. Zatímco v Atriu jsem mezi skupinami nezjistila téměř žádné vztahy, vedle Nových bytů bydlí Romové a sociální distance mezi skupinami se zde vyskytuje, i když nemusí přímo souviset s danou gated community.

Abstract:

Gated communities is phenomenon, which is slowly spreading around the world. Mainly residents benefit from it. Because of it´s security, residents can feel more protected and they could create community inside the complex. There often lives homogenous groups, so creating bounds between residents can be easier. But gated communities could cause serious problems too. They are a part of social segregation, which couls increase biases to foreign groups. Biases could be harder disprove because of missing contact between groups. It can affect the integrity of the population. In my bachelor work I am trying to describe, what kind of gated communities appear in Ostrava. Also I am in detail describing two gated communities, Atrium Slezská and Nové byty Ostrava. Gated communities are not very common in Ostrava, but it doesn´t mean that there is not residential segregation. It has only differents forms. Atrium is seven-storey complex of apartments, while Nové byty contains of fifteen small housing units. Both lokalities are secure, but only in Atrium are residents paying together the extra service. In any locality residents and neighbourhood residents don´t know each other. In Atrium I have not found any social distance between these groups. There live Romanies next to Nové byty and there could be social distance between residents and them, but it could not be related directly to the gated community.
