United Nations Force in Cyprus: success, or failure? The comparison of conflict Management and conflict Resolution perspectives

Anotace:

Cyprus problem is among oldest issues for UN and its department of peacekeeping operations. UNFICYP has been deployed since 1964, what is extraordinary long period for peacekeeping missions. Main goal of this thesis is to examine why is this so? In that sense, thesis will undertake research about UNFICYP performance in conflict management and conflict resolution of Cyprus problem. It will deploy two framework sets- one created for each aspect-and answer research question using information obtained. Each aspect will be qualified as failure or success (in relative terms) and then those two aspects will be compared. This will allow us to give comprehensive answer on the research question, which points at that comparison. Thesis will explain past and present state of affairs in Cyprus question and role of UNFICYP in it.
