The influence of František Ulrich on the transformation process of the fortress Hradec Králové into the Salon of the Republic in the early 20th century

Abstract:

Účelem magisterské práce Vliv Františka Ulricha na proces přeměny pevnostního Hradce Králové v Salón republiky na počátku 20. století je zachytit nejdůležitější období činnosti Františka Ulricha na postu starosty Hradce Králové a jeho přímé působení na změny v oblasti kultury, průmyslu, zdravotnictví a dopravy během prvních dvou dekád dvacátého století. Nejpodstatnější proměny se týkaly stavebního vývoje města a s tím souvisejících otázek budoucí podoby Hradce Králové a jeho regulace pomocí urbanistických plánů. Protože stavební koncepce uvažující spojení města a okolních obcí a vytvoření samostatného celku Velkého Hradce Králové selhala, bude hlavím cílem práce také analýza možných příčin, které vedly k neúspěchu tohoto přirozeného vývoje. Podstatná část práce je věnována postavě architekta Josefa Gočára a jeho regulačním plánům Hradce Králové a náhledu na osobnost Františka Ulricha v kontextu národní politické scény a mezinárodním ohlasům na podobu Hradce Králové.

Abstract:

The purpose of the master thesis The influence of František Ulrich on the transformation process of the fortress Hradec Králové into the Salon of the Republic in the early 20th century is to take down the most important period of the activities of František Ulrich on the Hradec Králové city mayors position and his straight working on the changes in the sphere of culture, industry, health service and transport in the first two decades of the twentieth century. The most relevant transformations have concerned the construction development of the town and the matters related to the future appearance of Hradec Králové and its regulation by the help of the urban plans. Since the construction conception considering the connection of the town and the surrouding communties and the creation of the independent entity of the Great Hradec Králové broke down, the main goal of the thesis is also to analyze the causes which posssibly led to the failure of this natural development. The essential part of the thesis is dedicated to the person of architect Josef Gočár and his regulation plans of Hradec Králové and the wiev on the František Ulrich personality in the context of the national political scene and the international responses on the appearance of Hradec Králové.
