Selected psychological aspects of Feldenkrais method

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je představit Feldenkraisovu metodu, zaměřit se na její principy, filozofii, cíle a efektivitu z psychosomatického hlediska. V práci se vymezí prostor pro názory o propojení mentální a tělesné roviny dle samotného Moshé Feldenkraise a také jsou zde stručně zmíněné výsledky zahraničních vědeckých výzkumů měřící míru efektivity této metody. Z důvodu teoretického předpokladu, že na základě praktikování Feldenkraisovy metody dochází ke změnám na fyzické úrovni i na úrovni mentální, vyhradí se v práci dále prostor pro popis vybraných psychologických konstruktů, konkrétně konceptu všímavosti a soucitu se sebou. V empirické části bakalářské práce je představena výzkumná studie. Zjišťovala jsem, zda jedenáctihodinový kurz Feldenkraisovy metody může u respondentů zvýšit všímavost a soucit se sebou. Výběrový vzorek se skládal z dvaceti dospělých respondentů, převážně žen. Ve studii byly použity psychologické dotazníky: Dotazník pěti aspektů všímavosti a Škála soucitu se sebou. Na základě výsledků studie se lze domnívat, že Feldenkraisova metoda může rozvíjet všímavost a soucit se sebou.V práci jsou dále uvedeny výstupy z polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s certifikovanými lektory Feldenkraisovy metody. Výstupy z rozhovorů jsou součástí textu v teoretické části práce.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor´s thesis is to describe Feldenkrais Method, especially its principles, philosophy, aims and effectiveness from the psychosomatic point of view. Moshé Feldenkrais´ opinions about the connection between the mental and the physical part of a human experience is also mentioned. Furthermore, findings from foreign scientific studies that had measured the effectiveness of this method are also reviewed. Since Feldenkrais formulated theoretical assumptions of possible changes in the physical and the mental experience after practicing his Method, I decided to describe also the relevant psychological constructs such as concept of mindfulness and self-compassion.In the empirical part of the bachelor´s thesis an exploratory study is presented. I was trying to find out whether eleven-lessons long course of Feldenkrais Method can increase the level of mindfulness and self-compassion. The sample consisted of twenty adults, mostly women. Two questionnaires were used in this study: Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire and The Selfcompassion scale. Based on the findings it can be concluded that practicing Feldenkrais Method can likely lead to increased levels of mindfulness and self-compassion.Other than that, I also included findings from half-structured interviews with certified instructors of Feldenkrais Method. The findings from the interviews are discussed in the theoretical part of this paper.
