Application of Drone in Agriculture in the Central Asia (A Case Study of Kazakhstan)

Abstract:

This thesis examines the potential and implementation of drone technology in agriculture within Kazakhstan, emphasizing its role in modernizing farming practices through precision agriculture and smart farming methodologies. The research explores key applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (AVs), with a specific focus on crop spraying, highlighting their effectiveness in addressing agricultural challenges such as water scarcity, inefficient fertilizer use, and technological gaps. Through a mixed-method approach, including a case study analysis of "Er~ Ali" farm, document analysis, and surveys among smallholder farmers, the study reveals significant improvements in crop yield, resource optimization, and operational efficiency resulting from drone adoption. Quantitative analysis using Chi-square and Fisher exact tests identified statistically significant associations between farm size and investment likelihood, as well as between income levels and perceived regulatory barriers, offering insights into factors influencing adoption. However, despite evident benefits, farmers face substantial barriers including high initial investment costs, regulatory complexities, and limited technical knowledge. Policy interventions aimed at financial accessibility, streamlined regulations, and comprehensive training programs are recommended to facilitate broader adoption. The study underscores that strategic support aligned with Kazakhstan's national agricultural development plans is essential to filly leverage drone technology's transformative potential for sustainable agricultural growth.
