Abstract:

Technologický pokrok ve fyzice, chemii a elektrotechnice neustále poskytuje moderní nástroje a řešení, která lze uplatnit nejen v lékařství a průmyslu, ale také v rostlinných vědách. Tento vývoj nabízí například postupy založené na interakci elektrického náboje s živou hmotou. Nabízejí se tak nové možnosti nahlédnout do struktury rostlinného těla a jeho fyziologických procesů. Aplikace elektrických metod ve vědách o rostlinách však byla až dosud ojedinělá. Metody nebyly dostatečně ověřené a přístup v jednotlivých odvětvích výzkumu i při praktických aplikacích nebyl jednotný. Cílem disertační práce bylo otestovat možnost použití metod založených na elektrickém náboji pro studium struktury a funkce stromu. Výchozím bodem je přehled současného poznání, na jehož základě byly metody klasifikovány do skupin podle fyzikálně-chemických a elektrotechnických jevů. Poté byla posouzena použitelnost geofyzikálních metod, jako je elektrická odporová tomografie, elektromagnetická indukce, modifikovaná impedance a pozemní radar pro studium struktury kořenového systému stromu. Výsledky neinvazivních elektrických metod byly porovnány se strukturou kořenového systému odkrytého supersonickým proudem vzduchu. Nakonec bylo testováno, zda změny odporu půdy korelují se změnami transpirace, fotosyntézy nebo se stářím topolů. Na základě přehledu literatury byl navržen přístup přírodních a umělých rozhraní pro modely toku energie a hmoty mezi rostlinou a prostředím. Nejpřesnější neinvazivní metodou pro prostorové zobrazení kořenového systému byla elektrická odporová tomografie; elektromagnetická indukce poskytovala přijatelnou přesnost a vyžadovala nejnižší časovou náročnost. Nejvyšší odpor půdy byl naměřen pod nejstaršími stromy, které zároveň vykazovaly nejnižší rychlosti fotosyntézy a transpirace. Elektrické metody poskytují moderní nástroje, které lze aplikovat na rostliny v různém měřítku, od buněčné úrovně až po úroveň ekosystému. Testované geofyzikální průzkumy mohou být efektivně použity k detekci interakcí mezi půdou a rostlinou, např. prostorového rozložení kořenů stromů, exsudačních procesů, prostorové variability půdního prostředí.

Abstract:

Technological advances in physics, chemistry and electrical engineering constantly provide modern tools and solutions, that may be applied not only in medicine and industry but also in plant sciences. These developments offer for example tools based on electric charge interaction with organic matter. Electrical methods show novel possibilities allowing insights into plant body structures and physiological processes. However, until now their application in plant sciences was inconsistent showing singular applications, utilization of unverified versions of methods and scattered performance within varying branches of science and industry, consequently limiting methodological approach. The goal of doctoral thesis was test of electric charge-based methods in plant sciences on example of tree structure and function. In doing so, firstly the overview of the plant-applicable methods and classification of methodical groups according to physicochemical and electrical engineering phenomenon are provided. Then field performance of geophysical methods such as electrical resistivity tomography, electromagnetic induction, modified earth impedance and ground penetrating radar, was compared with excavated root system using air spade. Finally, it was tested whether variations of soil resistivity, are related to transpiration, photosynthesis, or age of poplar trees. As a result of the literature overview natural and artificial interfaces approach was found as the most informative and future-perspective in terms of energy and matter flow between plant and environment. Field verification of the geophysical surveys, shown that the most accurate method for spatial imagining of the root system was electrical resistivity tomography, while the electromagnetic induction was the most effective in terms of intensity imagining versus time-consumption and labour. Finally, a variation of resistivity following the rows indicated age dependence, where the highest photosynthesis and transpiration rates were measured for trees growing over soil with low resistivity. To conclude, electrical methods are modern tools which can be applied on plant body on varying scales. Geophysical surveys can be effectively used to detect plants effect on soil e.g., spatial distribution of tree roots, exudation processes.
